Scholarship Application
Background:
The American Society for Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) is the international organization for professionals skilled in the design, specification and inspection of plumbing systems. ASPE is dedicated to the advancement of the science of plumbing engineering, to the professional growth and advancement of its members and the health, welfare and safety of the public.
The Central Florida chapter of ASPE scholarship is intended to help offset the financial struggles of an individual entering into the Engineering and Building Construction Industry. This scholarship is dedicated to those that have gone before us having worked in the plumbing industry and helped to advance the profession.
The current chapter board has the right to determine the amount and quantity of scholarships awarded each year based on applicants and the chapter’s current financial situation. The guideline for the minimum scholarship to be awarded per calendar year is $1,000
Application Requirements:
The applicant must be a member of or be an immediate relative of a family member that is a member of the Central Florida ASPE chapter. Immediate family includes spouse, parent, child, or grandchild. Should you not currently be a member of the chapter, student memberships are available.
The winner must attend one of the monthly dinner meetings to formally receive the award in either May or June of that year. The member meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of the month. The applicant must be enrolled or will be enrolled full-time in the upcoming fall semester in an engineering program or building construction program.
The applicant shall fill out the Application and submit two essays, with a minimum of 400 words each.
- The first essay shall be on the topic of ‘Why I chose the engineering or building construction industry.’
- The second essay shall be on the topic of ‘Describe the career field or industry you want to work in after college graduation.
The applicant must submit a reference letter by a teacher, professor, employer, or another individual that can comment on the applicant’s character, professionalism, etc. The reference letter cannot be by a family member or blood relative.
Each applicant must submit a copy of their most recent official high school, college, university or technical school transcripts. Transcripts must include definition of grade point assignment.
Selection Criteria:
The winning application selection will be based on the following criteria:
- The relevancy of the sought degree to the building construction and engineering field, specifically with the emphasis on plumbing design.
- The GPA of the applicant
- The extracurricular activities and community involvement of the applicant.
